Specifications for self-adhesive components
Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ adhesive strip remover -VAS 6349-
♦ hot air blower -V.A.G 1416-
♦ platform scale -VAS 231 007-
Temperature requirements for self-adhesive components
Important
● The temperature of the workplace, the vehicle and the components must be the same and must correspond to the processing temperature.
● The processing temperature is between 20 °C and 35 °C.
Removal of self-adhesive components
NOTICE
Risk of damage from high temperature.
– Protect adjacent components from heat exposure.
– Use hot air blower -V.A.G 1416- to heat up component to 40°C prior to removal.
Removal of adhesive residue
Important
● Adhere to flash-off time of 3 minutes for the adhesive remover.
– Remove adhesive residue from paintwork using adhesive strip remover -VAS 6349-, cleaning cloth and adhesive remover → Electronic parts catalogue (ETKA).
Cleaning bonding surfaces on body side for self-adhesive components
Important
● Before installing component in question, adhere to flash-off time of cleaning solution which is 10 minutes.
● Bonding surface must be dry.
– Clean bonding surfaces using cleaning solution and a new, lint-free cleaning cloth.
Specifications for installation of self-adhesive components
Important
● Do not remove protective film of adhesive tape until immediately before installation of component.
● Any application of paint on painted bonding surfaces must be complete and be at least “ready for installation” → General paint information.
If a manual pressing force is specified for a component:
– Test the manual pressing force using the platform scale -VAS 231 007-.
Note
Example for conversion: 70 N pressing force equals approx. 7 kg.
Continued
Decorative films and protective films
After installation
– Pull off application tape at an angle of 180°.
All vehicles (continued)
– Press on component/adhesive tape firmly over entire bonding surface.
– After installation, carefully check the components for secure fit.
– Observe the minimum drying time of 60 minutes at processing temperature.
♦ If present, observe deviating minimum drying time for the respective component in the relevant procedure.
♦ During the minimum drying time, the vehicle must be standing on a level surface at processing temperature.
♦ Mechanical work affecting the component to be bonded (static and dynamic loads) is not permitted during the minimum drying time.
Important
● To ensure that the vehicle is operationally safe, the minimum drying time must be adhered to.
